I was born in Sheffield and educated at King Edward VII School, Sheffield and following A- levels and a chance visit to the careers office in Sheffield I ended up studying for a part-time B.Sc. degree in urban estate Surveying at Trent Polytechnic, Nottingham which was a five-year degree course studied one day a week. As the name suggests, this was back in the day before 'Trent Poly' became Nottingham Trent University and I have recently celebrated 37 years in the profession.I am married with two married daughters and two wonderful granddaughters to keep me on my toes. It is just as well that I have embarked on yet another diet and fitness routine to try to keep up with them. Apart from my family, my pleasures in life are spending a couple of hours in my shed trying to 'engineer solutions', trying to get more or less half reasonable at riding a speedway bike and going on long walks with our Cavalier King Charles pup, Bentley.
